When Your 25-Years-of-Marriage-Wife Rolls Her Eyes, You Know What You Gotta’ Do.
I’m all for women’s rights and protecting women from cultural biases that disservice them. But, I’m also here to admit that even if I initially sided with Jada in this Will Smith — Chris Rock situation where the Award-Winner Will Smith punched Chris Rock for making an apparently bad joke (which was actually a good one) regarding Jada’s shaved head due to alopecia, I changed my mind.
I’m saying this because people should be allowed to openly admit when they’re wrong, and I think I was very wrong in saying that Jada should be embarrassed by her husband’s reaction when she was the one triggering it.
It’s very clear, as anyone can see in some images capturing Will Smith, that he smiled at the joke Chris made just milliseconds before his wife rolled her eyes in contempt, taking offence at the joke Chris Rock made when he was hired to do exactly this — make fun of the guests. Let me tell you something — sitting in the front row at such an event makes it almost certain that rather sooner than later in the show, you’ll become the target of the jokes. So you should be prepared either to smile and get in the game or duck.
