The Silver Lining Between Bragging and Motivation on Social Media

War-related and then, in general.

Is it worth it? Why don’t you look in the mirror and say to yourself that you are beautiful and kind instead of expecting to get that from others on social media?

Would it make it more plausible if a stranger says it for you through a thumb up? Honey, if that is what you’re after, then surround yourself with genuine people who make authentic compliments because they care and see you, regardless of make-up, filters, and posing.

Anyone can push the button when they don’t take the responsibility of following through with their compliments. Because what is it really behind a “like”? How does each side perceive it? If I give a “like”, I validate someone’s ideas for thoughts, etc., but if I give a like to someone’s selfie, what does that say? I like you — I like the way you look, I like your physical features — maybe it’s pleasing for my eyes. “Oh, so you lost weight”, you get the point.

On the other hand, for the person receiving it, it means validation — they say, “Oh, someone liked me”, or “Hey, they agree with my thoughts, they relate to me”.

All these are connected with one of our human needs for belongingness. For community. We want to be relatable, so we look in the mirror…
