Norwegian Alcohol Ban During Covid-19 Peak and Its Effects on Happiness

What would you choose: access to childcare or booze?

--

It’s almost common knowledge that Norwegians are among the happiest people in the world. If some of you don’t know it, Norway was deemed the happiest country in the world in 2017. Since then, it was slowly pushed away from the top three rankings, ending up in 5th place by 2020, while Finland has been topping the charts for a couple of years in a row now.

Nevertheless, the Scandinavian people are endowed with the unusual skill of making the best out of restrictions. The Nordic people have managed to thrive during long winters thanks to a positive mindset. To cut it short, several orientation points can help any of us develop the same kind of resilience against the winter depression risk:

  • Spending time in the outdoors for practicing sports such as cross-country, skiing, skating, running even;
  • Knowing how to dress for bad weather is a national skill (layers of wool will work wonders);
  • Looking forward to the cozy long evenings when lighting candles and snuggling under a warm blanket with a good book is the perfect way to drift away for hours (known as koselig).
