Is Zelensky, the Comic-turned-president, Too Good to Be True?
We’re craving heroes, and we like a good showtime, so I don’t know if it’s because of the recent reality-inspired movies I watched with fraudsters like Anna Sorokin and Simon Leviev. Still, when something or someone looks too good to be true, it’s usually because it is.
Wars nowadays are very different from what they used to be when the Internet was not around. Now, the whole world is looking and making opinions regarding the recent military conflict between Russia and Ukraine — a conflict that’s been there for ages.
People love drama.
We live in a world where we willingly intoxicate with movies — we binge-watch Netflix, so we have developed an eye for spotting the good and evil characters. A coincidence or not, this war presents us two main protagonists in a show-like fashion, Mr Putin on the one hand, representing the dark side, and Mr Zelensky, all while even more serene and light in comparison.
Wars are emotional.
People easily take part in this kind of setup. While not excusing Mr Putin’s cruel decision to invade a country and kill civilians forcing martial law and refugees to flee to neighbouring countries, people quickly sympathised with the ballsy Ukrainian…
