I’m Tired of Replying to Impersonal Birthday Wishes on Social Media

Let’s say goodbye to this socially imposed habit

I just turned 35. It’s a wonderful age I wouldn’t change for anything. It’s an age where I finally feel like myself and don’t need any external validation to prove my worth. I know it because I worked my ass for it.

So, why am I tired of answering impersonal birthday wishes since most of us seem to like receiving them for our birthday?

Because they falsely lead you to think that people are really giving a damn about your birthday, when in fact, just a few of them do it purposely while others:

  • Post a birthday wish because the social media platform makes it too easy not to use it;
  • Do it because it’s easier than picking up the phone risking to reach you at a bad time;
  • They received one from you, and they are returning the favor out of politeness.

But I used to like them before and measured my friendliness points through the number of birthday wishes I received that day, through various social media channels, and including from random people.
