I second you on that Natasha. The problem is currently there's no way to tell accurately what is human vs machine generated. There are no proper AI detection tools to warn Medium about that, and inform if say over 50% of a blog post was AI generated. When that will happen they will be able to come up with stricter policies. What they do now it's the politically correct thing to do. They acknowledge this is a practice today and they ask for cooperation and transparency. They are also counting on the editors to manage this movement as they might discover easier certain patters which will give away those who submit grossly AI generated text. Not so difficult: the text is usually flat, informative and repetitive. For someone who does this daily, as editors are, it won't be long until they'll be able to indentify patterns. So for now, Medium is reliant on people and does what anyone with a basic common sense would do: have an opinion on it. Once AI detection tools will come in place, then it will be a totally different story.
