This story is inspired by a real-life character, a person who, despite the adversity, still leads their handful team based on core values like authenticity, care and respect. Hence, to protect their identity, some facts presented in this story are real, while some are totally made up.

They have been having trouble sleeping for some time now, waking up in the middle of the night, trying to figure out what on Earth did they do this bad that management, they used to be part of not too long ago, is now treating them like this?

They used to be one of their own.

A cherished board member and leader that many employees looked up to. Now they spend their nights squirming, tossing and turning in an attempt to calm their itching nerves and body because the vivid imagination sows all kinds of scenarios of what could have possibly happened that brought them here.

My friend has never felt more alone in their entire career. Now in their 50s, after a lifetime of professional focus, which propelled them in top leadership roles, they’ve been stripped away from their titles and all the authority they once had.

I’m telling their story because, sadly, it’s not only their own.
